In Greece, the University Career Offices play a pivotal role in supporting and integrating students and graduates into the labour market.
Within this context, they offer career and skill development advisory services (e.g., communication, leadership), provide information about scholarships and postgraduate studies, internship/employment positions, maintain a registry of graduates, organize seminars and career days, facilitate networking opportunities between recent graduates and professionals from the labour market. They also conduct studies to track the progress of graduates and the effectiveness of their services. The findings from these studies are utilized by higher education institutions to shape their development plans and by HAHE, as part of its role in designing the national strategy for higher education.
EUROGRADUATE 2022 is the second phase of this pilot research and has as study years the academic years 2016-17 and 2020-21. The research is conducted by an international consortium of European organizations under the Coordination of the German Centre for Higher Education Research on Science Studies (DZHW). The other organizations are the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS), the Research Centre for Education and the Labour market (ROA) and the international body cApStAn, responsible for linguistic quality control.
The participating countries in this initiative are Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Italy, Malta, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia and Slovakia.
The responsible entity for conducting this specific research for Greece is HAHE in collaboration with Greek universities. Within the EUROGRADUATE 2022 framework, HAHE has undertaken a series of actions in accordance with the guidelines of the EUROGRADUATE consortium. It is responsible for coordinating and ensuring the proper execution of all individual actions by higher education institutions, with the goal of conducting the research in a timely and accurate manner, ultimately leading to the extraction of valid results.
The 1st pilot phase of Eurograduate survey was launched in 2018 with the aim of tracking the progress of graduates of the academic years 2012-13 and 2016-17. The survey, conducted in Autumn/Winter 2018, involved eight European countries (Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Malta and Norway).
The research was coordinated by an international consortium of 12 organizations, but six of them had the leading role:
The goal was to study graduates after one and five years of their graduation.
The research focused on the following levels of study: level 6 (undergraduate) and level 7 (postgraduate). In certain cases level 5 (short-cycle undergraduate programs) was also included.
In the survey conducted online using a questionnaire, approximately 5000 graduates were invited to participate. The topics examined were related to the demographic profile of the graduates, their education history, the transition to the labour market and the relevance of the studies to market needs, skills, mobility, possible further studies and the social impact of their employment.
The responsible body for conducting this research in Greece was Panteion University of political and Social Sciences.
Results for Greece focus on:
Eurograduate initiative focuses on graduates one to five years after their completion of higher education, with the aim of examining their short-term and long-term development and progress.
The research primarily targets graduates of undergraduate (Level 6) and postgraduate programs (Level 7), with secondary consideration for those in short (Level 5) and doctoral (Level 8) programs.
The methodology applied is uniform across all participating countries, with adjustments made to account for each country's unique characteristics. This approach ensures the reliability of research results.
The survey is conducted through a common electronic questionnaire used by all participating countries to ensure result comparability and the ability to draw meaningful conclusions.
